Accolades for Broken Lines (my biggest project to date)
"Without that sense of tension and dread there wouldn’t be the satisfaction at the end of jobs well done, either. And Broken Lines is able to deliver both of those feelings, the latter especially, in spades." - Kotaku
"If you’ve silently stormed, kicked doors, frozen synapses, or formed jagged alliances in the past and enjoyed it, expect to break lines with a spring in your step and a smile on your face." - Rock Paper Shotgun
"Broken Lines tells an underdog story against the backdrop of an original, almost sci-fi, vision of World War II. It’s a fitting game for a small but ambitious studio making the most of the modest resources available to them." - PCGamer
"As strategy-RPG hybrid games go, Broken Lines does a great job in presenting its characters and integrating their unique traits and abilities into the tactical gameplay. I can wholeheartedly recommend this game to both strategy and RPG fans." - Cultured Vultures
"Strong writing and an emphasis on tactical combat make Broken Lines stand triumphantly over much of its competition in the genre."
"Broken Lines is a solid squad tactics game with an intriguing narrative and fair, yet punishing permanent consequences for your actions."
Why I do this
The first video game I played, in the early '90s, was about a man who had to clean up all the monsters in his mansion before his wife would let him back into the bedroom.
Ever since, I’ve always been game for the games with settings and mechanics that deviate from the norm, such as Prince of Persia, Thief, Max Payne, No One Lives Forever, Ace Attorney, Sunset Overdrive, Talos Principle, Outer Wilds, and BanG Dream (to name a few!). And experiences like these are what I strive to make, no matter the platform or genre.
I also write fiction on the side, play music (and not just the guitar), take part in role-playing campaigns, make terrible puns, and mull over ideas during long walks in the park.
In 2020, I was awarded "Talent of the Year" at Spilprisen, Denmark's biggest games industry awards.
PortaPlay's creative director, who nominated me for the award, had this to say:
"Praveen combined artistic expression with flexibility and was a pleasure to work with, due to his easy-going attitude and a "yes, we can fix this" approach. To have artistic skills, tackle tricky challenges, be able to set one's own ego aside for the good of the project and to excel in teamwork at this early stage in his professional life, really show a great promise for his future!"
PortaPlay's lead designer and art director had this to say:
"Praveen is an efficient and versatile worker with a great team spirit. He can write in many different styles, both funny, dark, personal as well as in a more neutral, descriptive way. He has great creativity, sense of humor, and is very goal-oriented. He is also accomplished at working technically in our engine tools, where he has implemented, tested and iterated on the narrative and levels as an integrated part of the design team.
Praveen is basically a great team member, a fast and intelligent learner, and takes well to constructive criticism. He has helped shape the narrative and design of our game in a big way, so we are grateful for having him these past years."
